PAOLO SANNA

A genuine Sardinian, he was born in Belvì, a small and
picturesque village in the Barbagia mountains; when he was 3 years old, his
family moved to Cagliari, on the wonderful banks of Angels's Gulf. At present
he lives in Selargius (CA).
His first contact with a camera was
in 1978; besides the "usual" family pictures and like any good photographer
he started out by taking pictures of whatever caught his attention.
Slowly he realized that in order to
improve himself he had to make his work more rigorous and methodical: so
he took to working on specific subjects and planning his projects; he reduced
the number of family-inspired pictures and, in the meantime, he refined his
taste and increased his technical knowledge through specialised press and
books.
The turning-point came in 1982 during
a holiday in Santa Teresa di Gallura, a headland in the north of Sardinia;
he bought two picture books about Gallura and Barbagia: seeing those beautiful
pictures, he immediately realised wich way was to be followed.
He bought ten rolls of film and fixed
the wonderful shots offered by the Santa Teresa site; the good results he
achieved induced him to carry on and, in the long run, his interests multiplied;
not only sea and shores, though they keep their charm, but also churches
and monuments, feasts and popular traditions, handcraft and gastronomy, flora
and fauna and whatever concerns Sardinia became part of his photographic
targets.
His portfolio currently consists of
more than 20.000 pictures of Sardinia.
